Not eligible for telecommuting. In accordance with the Agreement between the Detroit Federation of Teachers (DFT) and the Board of Education of the School District of the City of Detroit, the following vacancy is announced. Position Summary The Teacher offers a rigorous curriculum aligned with the State of Michigan K-12 Computer Science Standards while upholding the mission, vision, and values of the Detroit Public Schools Community District. The teacher collaborates with families and other staff members to ensure students' academic success. The teacher evaluates and monitors students’ progress on a periodic basis. Minimum Qualifications Possess a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution. Provide evidence of proficiency in programming languages such as Python or Java, possess a strong understanding of core computer science concepts, effectively integrate project-based learning into instruction, differentiate lessons for diverse learners, and hold a valid Michigan Teaching Certificate or Temporary Authorization (T2EA) for grades 6-12. Essential Functions Implement the approved computer science curriculum aligned with Michigan standards. Deliver instruction in programming, algorithms, data analysis, cybersecurity, and physical computing. Foster computational thinking, problem-solving, and creativity. Guide students in exploring college and career paths in computer science. Integrate relevant tools and technologies into course content. Use assessments to measure progress and adjust instruction accordingly. Support students in meeting course competencies and preparing for opportunities. Foster an inclusive classroom culture. Promote responsible use of technology and digital citizenship. Communicate with students, families, and staff regarding student progress. Maintain accurate records of attendance and performance. Collaborate with colleagues and partners to ensure ongoing student progress. Support students in applying for college programs, scholarships, and certifications. Participate in professional development and contribute to improving instruction. Security Clearance Current employees do not need a new clearance unless the role requires it.
